AMC floats tender for ₹1,200 cr canal in the city

The state irrigation department and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will work together to complete the 1,200 crore Kharicut Canal reconstruction projects that have been put out to bid by the AMC. The World Bank will provide a soft loan to the civic agency for the purpose of updating the city’s drainage infrastructure, and the two agencies will each pay 50% toward the project’s implementation. The concept calls for renovating 40 bridges, covering the 22-km canal in continuous precast parapet boxes, and locating locations for 40 tiny green spaces and fountains. As of right now, the AMC has released tenders for precast boxes made of concrete for covering the canal as well as for precast boxes made of different materials for storm water and water lines that run alongside.

Since the communities along the canal have long been submerged during monsoons, the project that will run the length of the canal between Naroda crematorium and Vinzol will be advantageous to those in places like Naroda, Nobelnagar, Odhav, Nikol, Krishnanagar, Thakkarbapanagar, Viratnagar, Arbudanagar, and Indrapuri.
