Ambuja Cements to Invest ₹1,600 Cr in Bihar Grinding Unit

The cement giant Adani Cement’s subsidiary Ambuja Cements plans to invest ₹1,600 crore in Bihar to build a cement grinding mill. The unit, which will be able to accommodate the state’s expanding infrastructure needs, will be situated in Mosama village, Warisaliganj tehsil, Nawada district, and have an overall capacity of six MTPA.

The project, which has excellent rail and road connections, will be carried out in three stages. It is intended to commission the first phase by December 2025, requiring an expenditure of ₹1,100 crore and a capacity of 2.4 MTPA. There is enough acreage available for future expansion, which should result in lower capital costs for later stages.

Ambuja Cements Limited, a prominent entity within the Adani Group, has unveiled plans to invest approximately ₹1,600 crore in establishing a state-of-the-art cement grinding unit in Bihar. This initiative marks the company’s inaugural venture in the state and stands as the most substantial investment in Bihar’s cement sector to date.

Project Overview

The proposed Warisaliganj Cement Grinding Unit is designed as a standalone facility with a total production capacity of 6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). The project is structured to be executed in three distinct phases:

  • Phase One: This initial phase aims to establish a production capacity of 2.4 MTPA, requiring an investment of ₹1,100 crore. The completion and operational commencement of this phase are targeted for December 2025.
  • Subsequent Phases: The remaining capacity will be developed in two additional phases. The company has secured adequate land to facilitate future expansions, which are planned to be executed with significantly lower capital expenditures.

Strategic Location

The facility is to be situated in Mosama village, within the Warisaliganj Tehsil of Nawada district. This location offers strategic logistical advantages, being well-connected by both road and rail networks. The Warisaliganj railway station is merely 1 kilometer away, and State Highway 83 is accessible just 500 meters from the site, ensuring efficient transportation and distribution channels.

Economic and Employment Impact

This significant investment is poised to bolster Bihar’s infrastructure and economic landscape. The project is projected to contribute approximately ₹250 crore annually to the state’s revenue. In terms of employment, it is expected to generate around 250 direct jobs and an additional 1,000 indirect jobs, thereby stimulating local economic growth and providing substantial opportunities for the community.

Government Collaboration and Support

The Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA) has played a pivotal role in facilitating this project. BIADA has allocated 67.90 acres of land for the upcoming grinding unit, and the necessary environmental clearances have been obtained, allowing construction activities to commence promptly. The foundation stone-laying ceremony was graced by the presence of Bihar’s Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, who lauded the investment as a monumental stride towards the state’s industrial advancement.

Strategic Expansion and Future Prospects

This venture aligns seamlessly with Ambuja Cements’ strategic vision to expand its footprint across key markets in India. By establishing a presence in Bihar, the company aims to cater to the burgeoning demand in the eastern region, thereby enhancing its market share and operational efficiency. The project’s phased implementation approach not only ensures a steady augmentation of production capacity but also reflects a prudent allocation of capital resources.

In summary, Ambuja Cements’ substantial investment in Bihar signifies a transformative development for the state’s industrial sector. The Warisaliganj Cement Grinding Unit is poised to play a crucial role in meeting the region’s infrastructure needs, fostering economic growth, and generating employment opportunities, thereby contributing to the overall socio-economic advancement of Bihar.
