The loan is also part of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Project, which is a joint initiative of the ADB and the Government of India.

Three new metro lines in Chennai will be built thanks to a $350 million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which has been agreed upon by the Central Government of India. The loan is a portion of a $780 million multi-tranche finance instrument granted by ADB on December 8, 2022, for the Chennai Metro Rail Investment Project.
