The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) has lined up 22,900 crore projects in the port sector. The Union Minister for Shipping, Mansukh Mandaviya, said that the government is aiming to attract private investment to the tune of Rs. 1 lakh crore in the next two to three years in the port sector. The Minister was speaking at the India Ports Global Summit 2020, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
He said that the government is committed to the development of the port sector and will provide all necessary support to private players. He added that the port sector has the potential to generate nearly one crore jobs in the next 10 years.
The Minister said that the government is taking various steps to promote the use of cleaner fuels in the shipping sector and is working on a policy to phase out single-use plastic in the maritime sector. He also said that the government is working on a blueprint for the development of the maritime sector in the next 20 years.
