Telangana launches 31-km long metro rail project

The state of Telangana has launched a new metro rail project that spans 31 kilometers. The project is estimated to cost Rs. 13,000 crore and is expected to be completed within four years. Once operational, the metro rail will provide a much needed boost to the city’s public transport system.

The 31 km-long Hyderabad Airport Metro Rail project just had the foundation stone set by Telangana’s Chief Minister. A 27 km long elevated road and a 2.5 km long underground corridor will be built as part of the project. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, the GMR company, which operates Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, and the state government are all providing funding for the project. An estimated Rs 6,250 crore would be spent on the project. The Chief Minister’s office complimented the efforts of officials in bringing the Airport Metro to life in a public statement and emphasised the need for expansion in Hyderabad.
