As part of the ambitious bullet train project, four companies have filed proposals for the design and construction of Bandra Kurla Complex’s (BKC) lone underground station.
The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited issued a request for proposals for this nation’s first underwater tunnel in July. BKC in Mumbai and Ahmedabad in Gujarat would be connected by this bullet train project.
After the technical evaluation is finished, the financial bids will also be launched, and the companies that have made bids include Larsen & Toubro Limited, J Kumar Infraprojects Limited, Afcons Infrastructure, and MEIL HCC Joint Venture. After a few months, the financial proposals from the technically qualified bidders will be made available for review.
Identify the lowest bidder. The BKC subterranean station will be built by the firm with the lowest bid, according to an NHSRCL representative.
With six 425m-long platforms, the station’s 467m length makes it easy to accommodate 16 coach trains. Three levels will make up the underground building, including a service floor, concourse, and platform that will be 24 metres below ground. To make it easier to reach the neighbouring metro stations, there will be two entry and exit points. The layout of the stations allows for plenty of room for passenger mobility.
Additionally, the underground station has a special skylight option for natural illumination. “It incorporates integration with other forms of transportation such Metro buses, vehicles, and taxis.
According to an NHSRCL spokeswoman, the station has services for passengers such security, ticketing, waiting areas, business class lounges, nurseries, rest rooms, smoking rooms, information kiosks, and CCTV surveillance with public announcement and information systems.
NHSRCL issued a tender invitation for this package in November 2019; it was subsequently cancelled in February 2022. In July 2022, a 5-year deadline was added to the invitation to submit bids. NHSCRL officials claim that if everything proceeds as planned, actual work on the Bullet train will begin within a year.
For a 21 kilometre long tunnel that will connect Mumbai and Ahmedabad, bids were opened on September 23. Between Shilphata in Kalyan and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai, there is a 7 km undersea tunnel.
This project was supposed to be finished by 2023, but it has been put off because of difficulties with land acquisition and the Covid-19 pandemic. The project has gained momentum as a result of Maharashtra’s shift in government.
The Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train would stop at 12 stations along its entire route, with eight in Gujarat and four in Maharashtra. While stations in Maharashtra are Mumbai (BKC), Thane, Virar, and Boisar, stations in Gujarat include Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, and Ahmedabad.
