CMRL rolls out ₹61,843-cr Phase II extension

According to a statement released by Chennai Metro Rail, Phase II will extend the system’s 118.9-km length by 93 km to Parandur, where a new airport will be built. Three corridors have really been planned with a Phase II investment of 61,843 crore. The 45.8 km Madhavaram-Siruseri line is covered by Corridor 3, the 26.1 km Lighthouse and Poonamallee line is covered by Corridor 4, and the 45 km Madhavaram to Sholinganallur line is covered by Corridor 5. (47.0 km). Corridor 4 to Parandur (50 km), Corridor 3 from Siruseri to Kilambakkam Bus Terminus through Kelambakkam, and Corridor 5 to Avadi via Thirumangalam and Mogappair (17 km) (26 km). The feasibility study for these extensions will be carried out by a consultant, who will also give a report with recommendations.

The consultant’s report will address a wide range of issues, including traffic congestion, peak-hour travel, projected travel demand for these corridors over the next 30 years, estimated construction costs, the requirement for both public and private funding, social and environmental impacts, and various other aspects.
