Chennai’s 4,080 cr metro line has had its decks cleared

The highway department has given the go-ahead to carry out the 4,080 crore project, clearing the way for the building of the Airport-Kilambakkam metro line. As a continuation of the Phase I project in the southern portion of the city, the CMRL has planned a mass rapid transit system between the airport and Kilambakkam.

Future Highways department initiatives, such as an elevated corridor on this route, will be accommodated by Chennai Metro Rail. Only a few areas will have their viaduct’s height changed, according to Chennai Metro Rail. With stations at Pallavaram, Kothandam Nagar, Chromepet, Mahalakshmi Colony, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Tambaram, Irumbuliyur, Peerkankaranai, Perungalathur, Vandalur, Arignar Anna Zoo, and Kilambakkam Bus Terminus, the 15.3-km Airport-Kilambakkam project will pass through significant areas in the southern suburbs.
