The 14,000 cr Ramayapatnam port project is launched by AP

The chief minister of Andhra Pradesh lay the cornerstone for the construction of the Ramayapatnam major port in the Nellore district, where the project would be carried out in stages at a cost of $14,000 crore. Only six ports have been built in the state since Independence: Visakhapatnam, Gangavaram, Kakinada-I, Kakinada-II, Krishnapatnam, and Rawa. The current administration has started the construction of four more ports: Ramayapatnam, Kakinada Gateway, Machilipatnam, and Bhavanapadu. At a cost of 3,500 crore, they are also establishing nine fishing harbours and will finish building four ports as part of phase 1. The Ramayapatnam port, which will be built in two parts, will drastically lower transportation costs.

The initial investment would be Rs. 3,736.14 crore, while the ultimate phase would cost Rs. 10,640 crore. Ramayapatnam Port Development Corporation Limited, a division of the state-run AP Maritime Board, will carry out the project’s construction. In addition to the current six ports, the state will receive four additional ports over the course of the next five years. This development will strengthen the state’s economy and create jobs for the local population.
