The Pune Municipal Corporation has given its approval for the construction of a multimodal transit hub in Balewadi, which will bring together various modes of transportation under one roof. The facility will primarily house an MSRTC bus terminal, a PMPML depot, parking for private buses, and Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro-related services. On the 10 acres of land set aside for the project, a public-private partnership (PPP) model will be used to implement the project, which will cost Rs 1,100 crore.
The project will be built along the Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass, making Mumbai and Satara-Kolhapur more accessible. The MSRTC will be able to run buses on both routes without difficulty, and a plot has been set aside for Metro services. Once the multimodal hub is fully operational, direct access to the IT hub and the city’s other areas will be possible. Commercial and economic activities will also be possible at the facility. Transit-oriented development (ToD) will improve commercial viability while also generating revenue for the municipality.
