The City of Timmins is preparing to host the 2022 Canadian Mining Expo, which has grown to be one of Northern Ontario’s largest gatherings of mining experts.
The expo, which takes place June 8-9 at Timmins’ McIntyre Arena, will feature over 400 exhibitors, conferences, demonstrations, networking events, and a jackleg competition.
Following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the first time the event has been held in person in two years.
A lunchtime panel discussion featuring senior leaders will discuss mine projects in the pipeline; a technology conference focusing on communication, electrical ancillary services, digital transformation, and other topics driving the electric vehicle charge; and an Aboriginal forum focusing on benefit sharing, business and workforce development for and with Indigenous people are among the highlights of this year’s activities.
There will also be a discussion on the mining labour force, with experts providing an outlook on the industry’s future employment needs, as well as an opportunity for high school students to learn more about their options in the industry.
The annual expo, dubbed “The Big Event” by locals, has been running since 1993.
It has since grown into one of Northern Ontario’s largest mining tradeshows, with mining companies and suppliers displaying their products and services.
