The state government plans to conduct feasibility studies to extend three metro rail corridors, including a line from Thirumazhisai to Sriperumbudur. According to state finance minister PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan, the 118.9km phase-2 metro rail lines will cost 61,843 crore and will be completed by 2025. The feasibility study for extending Light House to Poonamallee bypass corridor-4 of phase-2 to Sriperumbadur will be conducted. The Thirumazhisai satellite town, intercity bus terminuses, and the growing number of factories and companies along the Chennai-Bengaluru national highways will all benefit from the line’s extension. A 4km stretch from Poonamallee bypass to Thirumazhisai satellite townships is already being planned. The metro line to Sriperumbudur will also be advantageous because the two sites for a second airport in Chennai, Pannur and Parandur, are both close to Sriperumbudur. A final location survey for a line from Avadi to Sriperumbudur is also being carried out by Southern Railway. The government has announced feasibility studies to extend the Thirumangalam-Avadi metro rail corridor-5 via Mogappair and Ambattur. The proposed corridor-5 connects Madhavaram and Sholinganallur via Koyambedu, Alandur, and Madipakkam at the moment. The extension is expected to relieve traffic congestion in the densely populated northwest suburbs of Chennai. The Madhavaram-Siruseri Sipcot via OMR corridor-3 metro rail line will be extended from Siruseri to Kelambakkam, with a study to determine the need for transportation services for the growing residential and commercial development along this stretch.
