The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has accelerated work on the 1.2-kilometer long Narmada River bridge in Bharuch, Gujarat, which will be the longest bridge on the 508-kilometer Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor. The bullet train will cross rivers such as the Narmada, Sabarmati, Mahi, Par, Kaveri, Purna Ambika, Daroatha, Daman Ganga, Kolak, Mindhola, Anuraga, Kharera, Tapi, Kim, Dhadhar, Vishwamitri, Mohar, Vatrak, and Meshwa, requiring a total of 20 bridges, according to NHSRCL Principal Executive Director Pramod Sharma. The Narmada will have the longest bridge, followed by Tapi and Mahi, both of which will be around 720 metres long.
By June 2024, the corporation hopes to have completed all bridge construction work. Two temporary Access Bridges of eight-meter width are being built in two parts with a 60-meter gap between them to allow navigation for the construction of wells inside the Narmada river stream (water wells). Because the Narmada River has a tidal effect that could have hampered river construction, the corporation built a temporary access bridge at a specific height to counteract the effect of rising water levels during the monsoon.
