Sagarmala Programme Boosting Port Modernization & Coastal Infrastructure

The Sagarmala Programme, a government initiative, is implementing 234 projects worth ₹2.91 lakh crore across coastal states and Union Territories to modernize ports and enhance infrastructure. The projects are led by central ministries, IWAI, Indian Railways, state governments, and major ports. 103 projects have been completed, while 56 are under implementation.

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways is providing partial funding for 119 projects, totaling ₹9,407 crore. In Andhra Pradesh, 12 projects worth ₹2,410 crore are receiving Sagarmala funding, with seven completed. The construction and upgrading of major ports involve both public and private sector companies.

The Sagarmala Programme, initiated by India’s Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways in 2015, aims to revolutionize the country’s maritime sector through port modernization, enhanced connectivity, and coastal infrastructure development. This comprehensive initiative seeks to harness India’s extensive coastline and strategic location to bolster trade, reduce logistics costs, and stimulate economic growth.​
