Caterpillar Inc. marked its 100th anniversary today with nationwide celebrations, highlighting a century of innovation and industry leadership. Founded in 1925 through the merger of The Holt Manufacturing Company and C.L. Best Tractor Co., Caterpillar has grown from its first track-type tractor to a global leader in autonomous construction equipment and advanced power solutions. Chairman and CEO Jim Umpleby attributed the company’s success to its employees, customers, dealers, and partners. “I am proud to lead such a strong team, and I’m confident Caterpillar will help build a better, more sustainable world over the next 100 years,” he said.
Celebrations were held in Sanford, North Carolina, and Peoria, Illinois. At the company’s global headquarters in Irving, Texas, the families of founders C.L. Best and Benjamin Holt joined employees and leaders to honor the milestone. Caterpillar also launched a Centennial World Tour, bringing an immersive experience to its facilities worldwide. To commemorate the occasion, limited-edition “Centennial Grey” machines will be available for purchase in 2025.
