The Chennai Metro has rapidly advanced the construction of the underground metro project from Madawaram to Talamani, and this work is likely to be completed within the next five years. The contractor has resumed the construction of the Phase -2 project because they have started to construct continuous walls at various locations throughout the road section to build the underground subway between Madhavaram and Trapani. It belongs to the Madhavaram to SIPCOT line and is part of the second phase of the project. The continuous wall helps to avoid any soil settlement because it is a box-shaped structure and must be built before the start of the tunnel construction. The construction of the continuous wall takes about 6-8 months, because it is a very complicated task. Construction of continuous walls has begun in Chetpet, Purasawalkam, Murari Hospital, Madhavaram, Ayanavaram and other locations. Germany provided trenchers for digging deeper into the soil. In fact, the tunnel project is the most challenging task and will start after the completion of the diaphragm construction. In addition, underground works require additional preventive measures and attention to ensure the safety of nearby roads and buildings.
