The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has completed the installation of the first special steel span for the Delhi-Gaziabad-Milat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor, which is located in Gaziabad, Uttar Pradesh The Indian railway trunk line entrance near Vasundhara.
This special steel span is 73 meters long and weighs about 850 tons. It has been installed on the piers about 10 meters high on both sides of the railway track through the arrangement of winches and rollers.
With the successful installation of this special steel span, the construction of India’s first RRTS corridor from Delhi to Meerut has achieved another milestone.
This is the first special steel span of the 17-km priority section from Sahibabad to Duhai, and it is planned to be put into operation in 2023.
Another special steel span of about 150 meters is underway in front of the Ghaziabad RRTS station. The RRTS viaduct under construction will cross the highway overpass and the Delhi Metro viaduct together.
With the full cooperation of the Northern Railway, NCRTC completed the installation of this special steel span with complete safety measures. The entire movement process of this special steel span on the Indian railway track is completed in a designated block with the least interruption time.
During the installation of this huge special steel span, the entire steel structure was first fabricated near the actual position of the trestle bridge, which is a frame composed of beams. After the complete structure is ready, it will be moved by rollers to the piers erected on both sides.
After the installation is completed, the next stage of track laying and OHE installation can be carried out immediately. In order to build the viaduct of the RRTS corridor, NCRTC is erecting bridge piers. The average distance between the piers is generally 34 meters. After that, these piers were connected by prefabricated sections, and the RRTS viaduct span was constructed by starting the gantry.
However, in some complex areas, it is practically impossible to maintain the distance between the piers when these corridors are set to cross rivers, bridges, railway crossings, subway corridors, highways or other such existing infrastructures. .
In order to connect the terminals in these areas, special spans are being used. NCRTC is constructing a special span made of structural steel in a factory, which is then transported to the site on a trailer at night to avoid any traffic problems, and is assembled in a systematic manner with the help of professional processes.
More than 14,000 workers and 1,100 engineers are working on the 82-kilometer RRTS corridor. More than 1,100 viaduct piers have been erected in the corridor. More than 50 kilometers of foundation works and approximately 14 kilometers of viaducts have been completed, most of which are in priority part.
With the construction of viaducts in priority sections, the construction of the five stations of Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai depot has entered an advanced stage.
