A number of New Delhi-funded infrastructure projects, including coastal protection and land reclamation projects, have been officially launched in Addu City by India and the Maldives. In an effort to establish Addu as a regional center and promote tourism and economic growth, India and the Maldives government collaborated on a $80 million initiative to recover 184 hectares of land that was finished earlier this year.
In addition, an Indian-funded $70 million road and drainage rehabilitation project in Addu is almost finished. The Maldives government is also renovating Gan International Airport under the Indian line of credit, improving connection between Addu Atoll, the Maldives, and the rest of the globe.
