Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train: Construction Work On Eighth River Bridge Completed

Another river bridge on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, also known as the bullet train, has been completed.

Reaching 120 metres between the bullet train stations of Bharuch and Vadodara, the Dhadhar River bridge is the eighth constructed bridge.

Three 40-meter-long full-span girders make up the bridge. The circular piers have a diameter of four to five metres, and the piers are 16 to 20 metres high. The piers serve as vertical pillars that give foundational stability, while the girders provide horizontal support.

Twenty of the twenty-four river bridges that are being built for the bullet train line are in Gujarat, and the remaining four are in Maharashtra. The first river bridge, 320 metres long, was finished in January 2023 across the Par River in Gujarat’s Valsad district, connecting the stations of Vapi and Bilimora.

Six more river bridges have also been finished: the 200-meter-long Venganiya river bridge in the Navsari district, the 320-meter-long Auranga river bridge in the Valsad district, the 200-meter-long Purna river bridge in the Navsari district, the 240-meter-long Mindhola river bridge in the Navsari district, and the 160-meter-long Mohar River river bridge in the Kheda district.

A 508-kilometer long infrastructure marvel, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project has 12 stations, 24 river bridges, 8 mountain tunnels, and 1 underwater tunnel. Implementation is being carried out by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL).

By 2028, the NHSRCL hopes to have finished the bullet train project, which will cut the three-hour travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
