Ejipura flyover: Contractor blames BBMP for construction delays
The BBMP was also chastised by the company for only releasing 75% of the mobilisation monies required to start the project.

Bengaluru: Citing the incomplete handover of the site, Hyderabad-based BSCPL Infrastructure Ltd, which is in charge of finishing the remaining work on the Ejipura flyover, has accused the BBMP of causing delays.

Additionally, the company took issue with the BBMP for only providing 75% of the mobilization monies required to start the project.

Days after the BBMP threatened to terminate the contract on May 26 if considerable progress was not made, the construction firm received a notification from the agency.

The BBMP mentioned in its letter that there had been delays in establishing the casting yard and supplying the staff and equipment required for the project.

The BBMP fired Simplex Infrastructure Ltd. in November of last year due to the company’s inability to fulfil project deadlines, and then hired BSCPL Infrastructure Ltd.

BSCPL replied to the BBMP’s communication by saying that it has located about 5.5 acres of land in Jigani for the purpose of creating a casting yard. Additionally, the business was looking into the possibility of using the current yard, where the previous contractor had previously stored parts and materials.

“Negotiation with the landowner of the existing facility failed as the previous contractor owed rent of Rs 2 crore and consequently, the landowner was unwilling to release the materials and casted segments,” said the letter.

BSCPL refuted any reports of a project delay, emphasising that before beginning work, specialists from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) were consulted to evaluate the safety of the pre-existing structure.

“I didn’t get the professional opinion until May 2024. Consequently, we claim that we have nothing to do with the delay,” the letter stated.

The letter also blamed the BBMP for not turning over the project site in its entirety, citing obstacles related to Kendriya Sadan, St. John’s Hospital, and Ejipura land acquisition.

It is crucial to understand that every contract contains reciprocal obligations that both parties must meet. The letter says, “It would be unfair to hold the contract responsible for any breach and to threaten to take legal action if it didn’t carry out its end of the bargain.” The company sent DH a copy of the letter.
