Investing in India enables AWS to build a better future for the world: AWS exec Jaime Valles

The business confirmed its long-term commitment to India during the current AWS Summit in Bengaluru. Amazon Web Services (AWS) Vice President and General Manager for Asia Pacific and Japan Jaime Valles underlined AWS’s commitment to India and the company’s ambitions to make significant investments in the nation over the next years.

Opening the AWS Summit with a keynote address that offered a nuanced understanding of the work that Amazon.com does in India, Valles touched on a range of topics from honouring partners to empowering Indian talent with AI skills. He described the event as “not a marketing event,” but rather as a chance “to connect.”

In addition, the AWS executive discussed the company’s vision, its investments in India, and the significance of India for AWS. They also went into detail about the four pillars of AWS’s India strategy. Valles also emphasised the innovative culture at Amazon.

Why is India important to Amazon?

India is essential to AWS for two reasons, as noted by Valles. India offers major hurdles since it is a “diverse, unique, multi-geography, multi-language country,” and these issues, together with customer input, drive innovation at AWS, he added. “Over 80 percent of their business comes from outside of India,” he said, referring to the success of significant Indian software and services businesses in India. Thus, he added, AWS can create “a better future for the world” by investing in India.

Additionally, he reaffirmed AWS’s long-term dedication to India by adding, “We are here.” We have the long term in mind. We are aware of our obligation. He said that AWS has committed to investing an extra $12.7 billion until 2030, for a total of $16.4 billion, on infrastructure in India, on top of the $3.7 billion it has already invested. An estimated 1,30,000 jobs would be created by this investment per year, adding $23.3 billion to India’s GDP.

AWS is committed to sustainability as well; by 2025, it wants to run its data centres entirely on renewable energy, and by 2030, it wants to be water-positive. According to Valles, “you reduce 96% of your carbon footprint when you move to the AWS cloud.”

Four pillars support AWS’s India strategy.

The four pillars of infrastructure, skills, partners, and security that served as the cornerstone of AWS’s strategy in India were also described by Valles during the keynote. Building local infrastructure, in his opinion, is the main goal of infrastructure in order to democratise access to technology for all 1.4 billion citizens of the nation. However, in order to meet the need for qualified personnel, AWS has taught over five million individuals in India since 2017 and plans to teach two million additional people worldwide in AI by 2025.

Speaking of partners, Valles underlined AWS’s dedication to fostering ongoing cooperation in order to provide clients with the solutions they want through a strong partner ecosystem. He noted that in terms of security, AWS positions itself as the best partner for businesses implementing generative AI by leveraging its experience in delivering dependable, secure, scalable, data-driven cloud services.

Amazon’s innovative culture

Valles claims that implementing cloud technology necessitates a “cultural transformation” that gives teams autonomy and for safe, data-driven decision-making. He referenced studies that demonstrate that 79% of effective digital transformations use a cultural approach, with CEO support fostering an atmosphere in which “people are allowed to be successful.”

According to Valles, Amazon wants to spread its innovative culture, which is based on procedures that promote trial and error, failure analysis, customer focus, and using facts rather than gut feeling. Valles expressed appreciation and encouraged the audience to fully utilise the sessions of the AWS Bengaluru summit towards the close of his speech. We are eager to keep studying, working, and concentrating on you. Together, let’s create a better India for the benefit of all people, the globe, and ourselves.
