Augment Technologies unveils AI mining technology in partnership with Hexagon

A partnership giving access to specially developed artificial intelligence (AI) created specifically to boost mineral recovery after open pit blasting in mining has recently come to light. The announcement was made at the most recent INDABA 2024 African Mining Conference by Perth-based Augment Technologies.

Customers of the highly regarded technology company Hexagon appear to now have access to a cutting-edge Augment Technologies AI-driven solution. This invention, known as the Muckpile Block Model, has the potential to increase mineral recovery by a staggering 5%. This finding suggests that each mine using this technology may potentially generate tens of millions more dollars in revenue annually.

In its field, the Muckpile Block Model is regarded as groundbreaking. Miners may greatly boost their ore yield and improve operating efficiency by precisely tracking and controlling the trajectory of open pit blasts.

Greg Hardwich, the co-founder and chief revenue officer of Augment Technologies, highlighted his excitement about working with Hexagon during a speech at the INDABA conference in South Africa. He thinks that by working together, the industry will set a new benchmark for minimizing ore loss and dilution from blast movement in all commodities. “Our team is thrilled to be working with this global autonomous technology leader to deliver our cutting-edge application,” stated Hardwich.

Through continuous machine learning, the AI technology at the core of the Muckpile Block Model improves decision-making in open pit mining. Drones that operate remotely not only save money on ore loss but also have the ability to measure it, so lowering risk exposure and enhancing worker safety.

Hardwich continued, stating that the level of precision and resolution was exceptionally good. Now, clients may equip themselves with an enhanced geological modeling solution from reserves to production, in addition to Hexagon’s Block Model Manager and the optional Blast Movement Monitor data.

Greg Hardwich claims that the effects might be “game changing” for the mining sector. Their AI-driven technology enables mining companies to mine more safely and effectively than ever before by providing them with never-before-seen insights and approaches for resolving complex, high-value problems.

James Dampney, vice president of resource optimization at Hexagon, confirmed that incorporating Augment’s Muckpile Block Model into Hexagon’s current offerings might have a significant impact on the industry. Such a collaboration might greatly improve operations, since ore loss, dilution, and misclassification cost mines millions of dollars every year.

Dampney continued, “Our partnership with Augment Technologies will help mines to optimise processes upstream and downstream handling of ore, leading to processing efficiency and reductions in energy consumption.” He believes that by modeling their ore with their current MinePlan Block Model Manager software, clients may reduce training costs and operating time while gaining a better understanding of their blast movement.

Hexagon, a well-known brand in the world for its leadership in digital reality and autonomous solutions, has been a trusted name in mining operations planning, design, and optimization for more than 50 years. This collaboration with Augment Technologies is expected to strengthen that standing even more.
