The Bengaluru Water Board said it will provide purified water in place of taking over borewells at building sites.
The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has chosen to seize control of borewells at construction sites and provide purified water instead due to the severe water shortage.
Moneycontrol was informed by BWSSB chairman Dr. V. Ram Prasath Manohar that construction projects need a lot of water. Even though treated water is meant to be used in buildings, improper regulations were in place when groundwater was plentiful.”
In a meeting with prominent city builders, Manohar emphasized the need to use recycled and eco-friendly water when developing, particularly for structures larger than 20,000 square feet.
Even before the height of summer, Bengaluru is facing one of its worst water shortages to date. The situation is urgent in the city’s periphery regions, particularly around tech corridors where there is no piped supply of water from the Cauvery River, but manageable in the city’s center neighborhoods, according to BWSSB.
According to him, they have already had contact with 338 of the city’s principal constructors. “We own the water, but builders were exploiting it to drill borewells. Right away, we are going to take over these borewells. Our suggestion is to supply secondary and tertiary treated water for construction-related tasks. In light of this emergency, we intend to reach an agreement to use borewells at building sites for residential use,” he stated.
