The total capacity under the program stands at 3722 MLD and the total number of STPs commissioned at 157.

In Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh, a state-of-the-art STP with a capacity of 47.70 MLD and an interception and diversion network has been set up at a cost of ₹261 crore. In Ayodhya, a 33 MLD capacity STP and interception & diversion network have been established at a cost of ₹222 crore to make the Saryu River clean and uninterrupted.

In Bihar, major projects have been started for the conservation of the Ganga River, with Bakhtiyarpur, Fatuha, and Phulwari Sharif constructing STPs at ₹85, 35.49, and 46 crore respectively. In Delhi, Asia’s largest STP with a capacity of 564 MLD and interception & diversion network has been completed at ₹666 crore.

In conclusion, the Namami Gange Mission 2.0 has made significant progress in achieving cleaner rivers and improved urban sanitation, reinforcing the mission’s core objective of sustainable and holistic river rejuvenation The projects, based on the Hybrid Annuity Model, aim to enhance wastewater treatment in various regions.

In Muzaffarnagar district, a 32.50 MLD capacity STP along with an interception and diversion network has been completed at a cost of ₹234 Crore In a significant stride towards river rejuvenation and pollution control, the Ministry of Jal Shakti has announced the completion of seven major sewerage infrastructure projects under.

The Namami Gange Mission 2.0 during the latter half of the fiscal year 2024–25. These projects, strategically located across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Delhi, are pivotal in preventing untreated sewage from entering the Ganga and Yamuna rivers, thereby enhancing water quality and supporting ecological restoration.

Project Highlights

The newly commissioned projects encompass the construction of sewage treatment plants (STPs) and the development of interception and diversion networks. Collectively, they add a substantial 3,722 million liters per day (MLD) to the nation’s sewage treatment capacity, bringing the total under the Namami Gange.

Broader Impact

  • A 32.5 MLD STP in Muzaffarnagar, constructed at a cost of ₹234 crore, aims to treat sewage before it enters the Kali West and Hindon rivers program to 157 operational STPs. The combined investment for these initiatives stands at ₹1,772 crore (approximately $212 million). In Bakhtiyarpur, a 10 MLD STP with associated interception and diversion networks.
  • Fatuha now hosts a 7 MLD STP, developed under a ₹35.49 crore project to enhance the region’s drainage system Phulwari Sharif has received a 6 MLD STP project at an investment of ₹46 crore, advancing local cleanliness and sustainable development. A 45 MLD STP has been completed to intercept and treat sewage before it reaches the Yamuna River.

These projects are integral to the Namami Gange Mission’s overarching goal of restoring the health of India’s rivers through effective pollution abatement and sustainable infrastructure development. By intercepting and treating sewage at critical points, the initiatives aim to reduce the pollutant load entering the rivers.

Future Outlook

With these additions, the Namami Gange Mission continues to make significant progress towards its objectives. The program’s focus on integrating advanced technology and community engagement ensures that the initiatives are both effective and sustainable.
