50,000 km of rural roads to be built by 2030: NRIDA

The Vision Document 2022 published by NRIDA contains the rules for constructing future rural roads in the nation.

According to BC Pradhan, Consultant Director (Technical) of the National Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (NRIDA), 50,000 km more of rural roads are expected to be built by 2030, with a focus on using green technology. Approximately 7 lakh km of rural roads have already been built.

India has the second-highest level of rural road connection in the world, and cold-mix bitumen technology not only has a long life cycle but is also environmentally benign because it emits 33% less pollution. By 2030, PM Narendra Modi wants to cut the global carbon footprint by 1 lakh billion tonnes.

He continued by saying that it is possible to build rural roads using industrial and mining wastes from this region of the world instead of topsoil for the base course material, such as overburden from open-pit coal mines, slag from steel industries, and fly ash from thermal power plants.
