50% construction done, Ayodhya temple to open for devotees in Jan 2024: Trust

The Ram temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya will be opened to devotees in January 2024 after the installation of idols, people familiar with the development said. Around 50% construction work of the Ram temple has been completed and it will be open for worship.

The ground level of the Ram temple must be finished by December 2023 in order for worshipers to enter the temple after that date.

According to Rai, “grand ceremonies for the opening of Ram Mandir will begin in December this year and would go till Makar Sankranti on January 14, 2024.” On Makar Sankranti in 2024, “Idols of Ram Lalla will be put in the temple’s sanctum sanctorum.”

According to him, the main temple would feature 12 teak wood gates and will be built on a 350 by 250 foot area. There will be a total of 166 pillars put in the temple, with 144 on the first floor and 82 on the second.
The primary structure of the Ram temple will be built using roughly 4.70 lakh cubic feet of carved stones. The first materials utilised were stone slabs and pillars cut at the Ayodhya workshop, according to Rai.

Additionally, the charity runs three workshops in the Sirohi district of Rajasthan’s Pindwara village.

White Makrana marbles from Rajasthan’s Nagaur district will be used for construction of sanctum sanctorum. Trust has also prepared a master plan for remaining area of Ram Janmabhoomi left after construction of the temple. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ayodhya during his visit to celebrate Deepotsav.

As of October 2022, the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has reached the halfway mark, with 50% of the work completed. The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has announced that the temple is on track to open its doors to devotees in January 2024, following the installation of the idol of Ram Lalla in the sanctum sanctorum during the festival of Makar Sankranti.

The temple’s design is both grand and enduring, featuring 392 pillars and 12 entrance gates crafted from teak wood. Notably, the construction avoids the use of iron bars; instead, copper chips are employed to join the stones, enhancing the structure’s longevity. The sanctum sanctorum will house 160 pillars, while the first floor will contain 82. A prominent main entrance, the ‘Singh Dwar,’ will lead visitors through various pavilions, including those dedicated to dance, color, and esoteric practices.

Financially, the project is substantial, with an estimated expenditure of ₹1,800 crore. The temple is being constructed to be earthquake-resistant and is designed to last over a millennium, reflecting a commitment to both safety and durability.

In preparation for the anticipated influx of devotees, the Ayodhya Development Authority is undertaking efforts to beautify eight of the city’s mythological ponds, including the ancient Surya Kund, and the ghats. Officials expect that once the temple is open, it could attract between 50,000 and 100,000 devotees daily.

The construction of the Ram Temple has been a significant endeavor, symbolizing a blend of traditional architectural practices and modern engineering to create a lasting place of worship for future.
