Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) will award 32 port connectivity projects totaling Rs. 8,832 crore in order to promote coastal shipping, Minister of State for Shipping Mansukh Mandaviya said on Monday.

The Minister said the government is committed to the development of the country’s port sector and added that the move will also help boost the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

“Under the Sagarmala project, the government has decided to award 32 port connectivity projects totaling Rs 8,832 crore. This will promote coastal shipping and help in the ‘Make in India’ initiative,” Mansukh Mandaviya said at an event here.

The Minister said the government is working on a comprehensive plan to modernize the country’s port infrastructure and added that the Sagarmala project will go a long way in achieving this goal.

“The government is working on a comprehensive plan to modernize the country’s port infrastructure and the Sagarmala project is a step in that direction. We are confident that the project will help boost the economy and create new jobs,” he said.
