In order to guarantee the security of service utilities and civil structures in and near the building sites for the Maharashtra Bullet Train line, extremely sensitive geotechnical monitoring instruments are being used.
To monitor tilt, settlement, vibration, fractures, and deformation, a variety of geotechnical instruments have been erected at and around building sites. These instruments include inclinometers, vibration monitors, ground settlement markers, and tilt metres. These tools are essential for guaranteeing the security of ongoing subterranean projects like tunnelling and excavation, as well as the nearby structures. In order to monitor and record operations, geotechnical instruments are connected to the corresponding modules. This allows for the prompt identification of possible dangers and the implementation of mitigation measures.
In order to make sure that air pollution and noise levels in the area of building sites stay within allowable bounds, dust and noise sensors are also being put at the sites.
The 21 km subterranean section of the Mumbai and Thane districts of Maharashtra Bullet Train line is currently under construction. At the Bandra Kurla Complex, these operations include digging for a 1 km long and 32 m deep underground Bullet Train station as well as building shafts and portals for tunnelling projects.
For the 16 km of tunnelling construction, which includes a 7 km underwater tunnel, three giant Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) will be used. The New Austrian Tunnelling Method will be used for the last 5 km of tunnelling. The tunnel’s depth will range from 25 to 57 metres. Tunnel Boring Machines will be deployed through the construction of three shafts, one ADIT, and a portal.
