The districts of Gurugram and Faridabad will have their electricity distribution infrastructure modernized and upgraded through projects authorized by the Ministry of electricity, valued at ₹3,600 crore. These programmes are part of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme of the Indian government,
which aims to fulfill the country’s rising power demand and provide a steady supply of energy. Three thousand five hundred kilometers of subterranean cabling, twenty new Gas Insulated Substations, and five thousand new distribution transformers will all be put into service as part of these projects. Major beneficiaries of this improvement are Greater Faridabad, NIT, Old Faridabad, Manesar, Badshahpur, and Ballabhgarh.
In a significant move to enhance the power infrastructure of Gurugram and Faridabad, the Ministry of Power has sanctioned projects worth ₹3,600 crore. This initiative, approved during an Inter-ministerial Monitoring Committee meeting on August 14, 2024, aims to modernize and upgrade the power distribution systems in these rapidly developing districts.
Scope of the Project
The approved projects encompass several key components designed to bolster the reliability and efficiency of the power supply:
- Gas Insulated Substations (GIS): The plan includes the establishment of 20 new GIS facilities, with 12 located in Faridabad and 8 in Gurugram.
- Underground Cabling: A total of 3,500 kilometers of underground cabling will be laid, aiming to enhance safety and reduce outages caused by external factors.
- Distribution Transformers: Approximately 5,000 new distribution transformers and compact substations will be commissioned to support the growing power demand. pib.gov.in
- Feeder Bifurcation: The project plans to bifurcate 486 existing feeders into 821, which will help in load management and reduce the risk of overloading. pib.gov.in
- Network Automation: Advanced automation technologies will be integrated into the network to facilitate prompt fault detection and swift restoration of power, thereby minimizing downtime.
Targeted Beneficiaries
The modernization efforts are set to benefit several key areas within the two districts:
- Gurugram District: Residents and businesses in Manesar and Badshahpur are expected to experience improved power quality and reliability. pib.gov.in
- Faridabad District: The upgrades will serve consumers in Old Faridabad, NIT, Ballabhgarh, and Greater Faridabad, addressing the increasing power demands of these regions.
Anticipated Impact
The implementation of these projects is poised to significantly enhance the quality and dependability of electricity supply in both Gurugram and Faridabad. The shift to underground cabling is expected to improve urban aesthetics and safety, particularly in densely populated areas. Moreover, the adoption of modern technology and automation will ensure that the power infrastructure is robust and capable of meeting future demands.
This strategic investment underscores the government’s commitment to developing resilient urban infrastructure, fostering economic growth, and improving the quality of life for residents in these burgeoning urban centers.
